Åsas Tomtebod – Gotland Classic Beard Tomte

This is the classic Beard Tomte that became the symbol of Åsas Tomtebod. First designed by Åsa Götander in the early 1990s, it remains one of the workshop’s most cherished and best-selling creations. At approximately 13.7" (35 cm) tall, this Tomte makes a striking statement in any holiday display. With a hand-felted wool hat and a genuine Gotland sheepskin beard, each piece is as unique as the Nordic folklore that inspired it. Available with a red or grey hat and a soft grey beard.

About the Tradition

Tomtes—mischievous yet protective little gnomes—have been part of Nordic legend for centuries. Families would often leave small treats out for them, ensuring these spirited helpers stayed happy and kept mischief to a minimum.

Artisan Craftsmanship

Each Beard Tomte is carefully handcrafted using only natural materials. The wool hat is hand-felted, the beard is made from Gotland sheepskin, and the body is crafted from wood. Because of the natural variations in sheepskin and the handcrafting process, no two Tomtes are ever exactly alike—making yours truly one of a kind.
